Our Wedding Day, 24th August 1968 St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Elland, Yorkshire
The swinging 60’s as some called it but things have changed, as it was not quite as liberal as it is today. In the 60’s we met a girl, courted for a while, got engaged then got married. No trial runs, no living together. Our wedding day was special, although I was so nervous I forgot about many events of the day, it just rolled along without any problems. A clear sunny morning, everyone happy with our families mixing well together. Pauline looked absolutely stunning, a princess, as she is today. I do remember the priest Father Blanchfield calming my nerves when we arrived at the altar, he simply said “ what a nice day” and somehow that triggered calmness. Pauline and I had our reception at the Wainwright Hall Elland then Malcolm Frethey kindly drove us to our honeymoon destination… A caravan in Filey Yorkshire.
